name check

This morning I re-tweeted a message from @mashable about a new way to check if your name is still available for a plethora of social networking websites.

The site is aptly called namechk.com and as described on the about page:

Namechk.com was designed by David Gosse and Andy Edinborough to instantly show you if your desired or branded username was available at the majority of the top social networking websites. By typing your username into the search box, it will query all the social sites listed on the page and display whether the username is taken or available.

By going to the site and typing “pietbos” in the search box I discovered that LinkedIn still had my name available. So I decided to change my profile name immediately.

In another article on their site:

From a marketing standpoint, this is a crucial process that should not be overlooked. Check out this article on the importance of registering your username before someone else does

Guess that in that aspect I’m an early adapter? I have my username-presence with this website already since July 24, 2008.
