Friday morning Mia and I arrived in Beijing. Although Mia has been back a few times already since our move to Valencia, for me it is the first time since my departure from China in September 2008. What follows are some impressions.
When in Spain, just be ignorant…
As I write this I smell melting plastic and faintly I heard a siren in the distance. I guess they found it…
Our first bullfight
During Las Fallas there are bullfights every day in Plaza de Toros and we were lucky enough to get tickets to a fight where matador David Fandila or “El Fandi” was performing his arts!
Our first Mascleta
We have to admit and can confirm that a Mascleta definitely has more ear-deafening fireworks than anything we have ever heard in China!
Student visa Mia approved!!!
Great news! Mia just called that this morning (it’s 7 hours later in Beijing) the Spanish Embassy called to inform her that her student visa to Spain has been approved! So in a couple of weeks the long wait is over and we can together start our life in Valencia! The initial date of the [...]
beautiful light
A weird day today. It seemed all right waking up in the sunlight, but it was extremely cold. Read on the news that a cold front has arrived in Spain and the first snow has already fallen in the north. In Madrid it has been raining heavily causing flooded roads and lots of traffic jams. [...]
the week that was

Utiel Gastronomica
Just came back from my daytrip to Utiel. Fantastic day!!! Quite a bit different than what I expected, we actually went there because of the Utiel Gastronomica. More about that later. We left in the morning by train and against expectations it took 2 hours to get there; a “boemeltreintje” as we call it in [...]
Happy Miercoles and Valencia Day
Every Wednesday at my school it is Happy Miercoles (Happy Wednesday), all students that want to participate go with 1 or 2 teachers to a bar for a few drinks and afterwards you can join dinner. A good opportunity for me to get to know some people, so I decided to join. My class finished [...]
move to Valencia – Sept 18
Beautiful morning, took some photos from my hotel, so Mia could also enjoy the new environment a bit Discovered that bloody Movistar (from Telefonica), where I bought my prepaid phone card from yesterday, doesn’t have an agreement with China Mobile and therefore sms is not possible between Spain and China on their network. Luckily Skype [...]
