Yesterday we visited Jávea and Dénia for a day with two classmates Johan and Nils. It was the perfect day for it: mostly blue skies and a temperature of around 18 degrees! Yup, in December!
Jávea and Dénia are situated halfway between Valencia and Alicante and it is the most eastern point of the peninsula; we drove it in a bit more than an hour.
The first spot we visited was the lighthouse of Jávea. Nils already had been there once and told us to blindfold Mia so the gorgeous view would be a real surprise. Very considerate of him and the view was indeed amazing!
We walked around a bit and sat around to enjoy this great place before we drove down to Jávea. A winding road took us down the mountain and many people have built very expensive villas here that are dotted on the slopes.
In the center of Jávea there was a cultural market where we had great Argentinean BBQ before we had a walk on the pebble stone beach. From the beach we could see towers up a mountain that looked like they were part of a castle. So we decided to visit them on our way back to Dénia.
The towers turned out to be ruins of windmills that were built here in the 14th century to grind wheat and other cereals. Most of them are now part of private property and turned into guest rooms, but few are still open to visit. We watched the sunset and it was really beautiful.
Then we drove down to Dénia where we had a walk through the pitoresque center and had a look at the walls of the castle. We will definitely have to come back here in summer as it looks promising and the castle is something we cannot miss, it’s giant!
All in all a great day out! Have a look at the pictures if you’re interested.
