Launch WP Theme Kite

May 06, 2009 Published under WordPress

Well, a bit earlier than originally thought, I just launched my first WordPress Theme: Kite.

The theme features a 3 column home page template that replaces the index.php. The Posts and Pages have 2 columns, content left and sidebar right, and the archive- and search templates have 3 columns again.

With the help of WP Recipes and others, I tried to built in a few plugins, such as Recent Posts and Recent Comments, but of course also this theme still uses quite a few other plugins.

The Kite Theme also features Rotating Header images, built by Chris Pearson, thanks! For now I am having a few kite pictures on, hence the name of the theme, but soon I will replace them again with my own photos.

I built the theme so far on my localhost, but some things I cannot test there and since I was getting quite frustrated with the previous theme, I decided to do the switch now and tweak on while it’s online.
Therefore it can happen that things look ugly as hell; know that I am working on getting it all right and straightened out, but of course you can always leave a comment to give me a head’s up.

The comments template turned out to be a major pain in the butt and also the search is not all that easy to get right. I expect that eventually I will have it all in order though and by that time, have learned a lot.

Who knows, I might even release it as my first official theme…
